This fast-paced course takes you where you need to be. Thinking musically, like musicians do! When learning any musical instrument there's always one part where you will have to dedicate time to develop your technical skills. It takes not just months but years to refine those skills only to find out that sometimes we totally ignored the 'intellectual' aspect of music! Wouldn't it be great to have a bit of skill .. not too much, in fact rather on the "slow side" and still be able to play something that 'sounds' good? Harmony is much about that intellectual side rather than being able to play with lightning speed technique. It's not about just learning chords or playing scales up & down the keyboard. It's THE concept how to sound good. Why one note sounds better than the other. The more you understand the underlying concepts and how to apply them, the more you will realize that a lot of music can be played and enjoyed without having to acquire concert-pianist level skills. I'm sure you've probably seen enough guitarists strumming chords and instantly enjoying the music with everyone around singing and clapping along? On the keyboard, we can and should too! I mean we have 88 keys haven't we?! So hop along & join me in this short but rich journey through piano harmony. _______________________________ All songs mentioned are transposed to the key of C . The songs themselves are excerpts that will address a particular concept or technique. 11 practice songs with accompaniment example & analysis: Let it Be (Beatles), Can't help falling in love with you (Elvis), Canon in D (Pachelbel), My Love (West Life), Don't know why (Norah Jones), Desperado (the Eagles), Have I told you lately (Rod Stewart), Fly me to the moon (Jazz standard), Tears in heaven (Eric Clapton), Just the 2 of us (Grover Washington), It might be you (Stephen Bishop) 3 songs demonstrating common grooves: Girl from Ipanema (Antonio Carlos Jobim), Misty (Jazz standard) & Can't take my eyes off you (Gloria Gaynor) 11 other short excerpts mentioned: Nothing's gonna change my love for you (George Benson), I miss you like crazy (Natalie Cole), Just the way you are (Billy Joel), Let it go (Frozen), Superman (Five for Fighting), I started a joke (Bee Gees), Everything I do (Bryan Adams), Change the world (Eric Clapton), Last Christmas (Wham), Can't smile without you (Barry Manilow), Santa Claus is Coming to Town

"Intervals" truly are the building blocks of melody and harmony, and once you can begin to understand their unique qualities and hear them internally, you will begin to sight-read better, and discover chords and harmonies more easily. This course is designed to give you some  insight into how music intervals (the spaces between notes in the tunes we love) relate to chords and work together to create the unforgettable songs we love. A little knowledge can go a long way when it comes to music, and once you begin practicing these skills and memorizing the patterns, you will enter a whole new world of appreciation and enjoyment in everything you hear, read and sing. I've composed a series of pieces, one for each interval starting with a 2nd and going all the way to an octave, as well as some exercises and warmups to train the ear for harmony. Use the backing tracks to practice the exercises at your own pace, and revisit the videos as often as you like to help you to develop your memory for the patterns in music. Learn how the scale and intervals work in a step by step process designed to get you internalizing pitch and harmony even when you are not singing or playing! Learn what bass clef chords look and sound like on the piano as well, and maybe even try to play along on some of the pieces if you have a keyboard! For those who have studied solfege, I have taught both "movable" and "fixed" solfege for 20+ years, but I prefer to teach with movable solfege for this series as it helps to develop a memory for patterns in melody and harmony no matter the key. I've included many pdfs of the sheet music which can be downloaded and printed out to further aid your learning. There are also many backing tracks for independent practice. So let's start training your ear and developing your innate musical gifts!

Play By Ear Level 2:  Learn to play songs in all 12 Keys with just 1 Sheet! I n the traditional way that we are taught to play with music score, we practically need 12 score sheets to play in all 12 Keys. People need to learn to read music. The MAGIC of this course is that you do not need 12 different score sheet, and you do not need to read music to play in all 12 Keys. All you need is one sheet written in the 7-tone numbers and you will be able to play a song in different keys. You will learn 17 Magic Tips along the way to play in all 12 Keys. There is a total of 59 Practices to 19 Songs. Here's the Secret: The 7 tone music is a breakthrough and short cut to sight reading music.  It is time-saving for performers to produce music from paper to sound without worrying about key signature. This number notation is key independent; therefore there is no need to rewrite the music for  different keys. The notation is an easy way for composers to record and communicate their ideas quickly. The MAGIC of this POWERFUL 7-Tone Music: The 7-tone music is intuitive  and effective in  communicating music. It is a music  notation that is consistent, uniform and succinct. You can learn the system in one hour. That´s how simple and easy it is. It allows you to intuitively SEE patterns and many elements of music at a glance. Its simplicity promotes  efficient learning particularly in playing songs by ear. The 7-tone music allows you  to play a given song in all 12 keys You need to become familiar with the 12 scales. In this Play By Ear Method 2 series, I provide you with many tips and analysis to show you how to take full advantage of this 7-tone music you learned in "Play by Ear Method 1 - Pick out Melody of Songs with 7 tone." It  takes only an hour to learn the system. That´s how simple the system is. You don´t believe me? Tell me about it after you learn the system from me. Once you have this method, you can spend ONE day to start playing songs by ear in 12 different keys. This surpasses the learning curve of traditional music that requires you to read music. To guide you to use the my number system comfortably, I provide many songs for you to work on, so that you get lots of practice to become proficient with the 7-tone music. By the end of the course, you will be able to even notate your own songs in this numeric notation and play songs in different keys. My Play By Ear Method 2 totally simplifies the thought process when you play songs. To me this is most valuable because it frees students from reading the more complicated music staff notation, and helps the student to acquire a QUIET mind to listen to the sounds deeply, to play with ease and with creative freedom.  This is what play by ear is about. L evel: Beginners to Advanced ideo Song Demonstrations: I use software-animated videos that show you clearly how to apply the 7-tone music to playing songs by ear. I first demonstrate how this is easily done in the key of C. Play Songs Easily in all 12 Keys What you can do to the key of C can easily be done to any key, even in the more difficult keys such as Db key, B key or F# key. The thinking and application is CONSISTENT in all 12 keys. In my videos, using different songs, I show you how to apply the 7-tone music to play songs in all 12 different keys. I purposely also choose some of the harder keys to play in (B, Db, Ab) so that you can see how easy the system is once your thinking is clear. Learn to Listen Deeply A lot of ear training programs want to help us to LISTEN DEEPLY to the sounds. My approach uses songs to help you listen DEEPLY to the tones you play rather than naming the intervals such as M6, m6, m2, M2, m7 or M7 etc. If playing songs by ear is what you want, this is perfect for you. If you want to learn sound intervals and distinguish them, you would have to go for ear training software for those drilling exercises. This course is all about playing songs by ear in 12 different keys so that you can play the songs in the key that is in the vocal range for people to sing.
